Colombia - Interview with Jono, Dave, Bek and Jon

What impact has this week in Colombia had on you?

Bek: Meeting people this week you can see their impact of the trauma on their faces and in their expressions. You can see fear in their eyes. Knowing that it's not safe for people to go out at night in some places, or that it's not safe for them to stay in one place for a long time was really impacting.

Dave: This week has had a phenomenal impact on me. Meeting people and playing with the kids especially has blown me out. It was great going to pray with people, to be with people and minister with people. One of the biggest things that affected me emotionally was when a young girl prayed for me and when the kids sang to me.

Jono: I will look at my decision making differently, pray differently, and spend my money differently. I will look at the issues in my life differently now. My life has taken a left hand turn if you like. Having seen what I've seen over here my life has to change. Every western Christian needs to experience the reality to violence over here - if we could learn some lessons from the believers here the western church would be far better.

Jon: It impacted me to see how joyful the church congregations are. They way they worshipped and prayed kind of made me feel ashamed by the way back home we get caught up in church politics and issues.

What personal highlights will you take home?

Jon: I really enjoyed spending time at the kids home, fellowship with the pastors at the training.

Dave: I don't think just one person had a greater impact on me. Everyone's been amazing.

Jono: What stands out for me was my 22nd Birthday Party. I've never been given a greater gift. I come from a church that's fairly wealthy, I have a good job. I came here to help people in Colombia, but the fact they took time to prepare an event for me, for my birthday was a blow out. I was stunned. All the kids, staff and teachers put so much effort into that afternoon it was amazing and I'll carry that with me throughout my life. They showed me completely the love of Jesus - unconditional love. We were hot and sweaty and the kids just wanted to hug us and show their love. It was indescribable.

Bek: Everyone we've met this week has an individual story. The whole caring nature of the love of God really moved me.
