The Dollar Project

What if your dollar and my dollar could change someone's life, bring hope to a family or provide a future for a community?

The dollar project is all about asking you, your church or school group to donate something small so together we can make a BIG difference in the lives of persecuted Christians.

The Dollar Project goes to BIG EXO DAY

Small change -  big impact.  Together we can make a change with our change in the life of a Persecuted Christian.

On the 19th of September Open Doors Youth brought the Dollar Project to Exo Day, a youth event run by Youth Alive.  The events sees about 10 000 young people come through to see bands, go on rides and hear about how they can make a difference in their world. We wanted to see young people give just one dollar to the campaign and to share with them the message of the Persecuted Church.

Both Christians and non Christians came to the stand, gave a dollar and then wore the Dollar Project temporary tattoos that we had printed.  Nick Freestone volunteered his time and brought his guitar with him.  He began playing outside our stand with a small box in front of him that stated "Because Persecution is wrong".  Kids started gathering around requesting songs and the word soon spread that he would play anything you asked.  Kids were coming from the other side of the event just to have him play their favourite song and even having photos with him.

Through Nick's playing we recruited a guy named Brody from the Central Coast who stayed with our stand for 2 and a half  hours singing with Nick and pleading with passers by to give a dollar. Nick played non stop for a total of 4 1/2 hours- thanks Nick.

We also had two other volunteers for the day- James and James who spent several hours walking around EXO Day asking people to give a dollar.  We were so encouraged when we saw kids seeing the "Dollar Board" and stopping to open their wallets and give.   From the day we raised 5% of our target for the whole campaign and were very encouraged with how the day progressed and just how much impact giving one dollar had on the those who gave.
