NORTH AFRICA: Young Christian Mother Escapes to Begin a New Life

Kamilah shares: “I am 26 year old and mother of two children. Like all the women in the village, I did not go to school. I worked since my childhood in the agriculture, which is the main activity here. My life was pretty normal, until I met Jesus...

One year before my conversion, I had a dream. In this dream I saw a man who removed my heart and gave me another clean heart. I did not understand the meaning of this dream.

One year later, a Christian couple Idir and his wife Assia, visited our village. During their stay, Assia told many stories about Jesus to the women of our village. I listened to these stories very carefully. Then I understood that it was Jesus that I had seen in the dream. Before Idir and Assia left the village, I gave my heart to Jesus.

I decided to speak with my husband immediately about my new belief. My husband did not understand anything about it and became very violent and beat me up.

Then he divorced me because of my faith and remarried my cousin.

After all of this happened, I kept the responsibility for our 2 children and started to work in the fields to earn a living. During that time, I spoke to other women in the village about Jesus. The Lord used this time to convert a family and two other women.

My parents did not understand me at all. They tried everything to prevent me of sharing my faith in Jesus, but they failed. Finally they decided to force me to marry the Imam of the mosque, who already had three women.

At this point Open Doors intervened and helped me to leave the village with my 2 children on the back of a camel towards a new future. In the new city they gave me the chance to begin a small fish and vegetable shop. Thank you so much and all praise to the Lord!”
